Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up in New York City, Mitchell graduated with a BA degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. Mitchell was hired by the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Then, she became a Washington general reporter of NBC News two years later. In 1981 began covering the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She became Chief White House reporter in 1992 and the head International Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell was on the panel at the 1988 debates with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for her outstanding performance in the field of journalism. In 2004, The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, during the time of Ronald Reagan's two term as president. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news stories such as arms control, taxes on the budget, as well as the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to many summits with the help of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
